$1,800 GEORGIA HOMEBUYER TAX CREDIT


House Bill 261 gives a tax credit of either $1,800 or 1.2% of the purchase price, whichever is less, to an eligible Georgia Homebuyer. Here is how the Georgia Homebuyer Tax Credit applies to home purchases:

  • Applies to single-family homes, townhouses and condominiums if they are your primary residence.
  • The property must have been for sale prior to May 11th, 2009. 
  • Any home purchased between June 1st and November 30th, 2009 that meets the criteria is eligible for the tax credit.  
  • You can claim 1/3 of the credit each year beginning with your 2009 Georgia tax return
